Last week I made the ginger ale and it was fab. We all liked it, the two youngest liked it a bit more the second day because it was a tad less tart.
I am so excited to know how to do this… it will help to kick the soda habit and it tastes great too. ๐
It is truly simple to make your own…
All you need is:
Ginger
Lemon
Sugar
Yeast
Water
I began by pouring a cup of raw sugar into a 2 liter soda bottle. Then 1/4 tsp of yeast is added into the bottle.
Now I used a microplane and grated my ginger very nice and fine. I used 1 1/2 tablespoon ginger and added it to the bottle.
Juice one lemon and add the juice to the bottle. Once that is added… fill your bottle up with cold, clean water.
I shook the bottle once about half full to get the sugar to start dissolving. Continue to fill with water until you reach about the neck of the bottle, and put on your lid.
Set your ginger ale in a quiet and somewhat cool place for about 24 hours. At this point press on the bottle to see if it is tight or if it still ‘gives’ some. If it is tight, put it in the fridge for a few hours and your are ready to drink. If it still haves some give in the bottle then let it sit out another 10 hours or so and check.
It is really tasty and a fun drink to have on hand.
*** Do not let your ginger ale set out TOO long or you will have an explosion on your hands. Once the bottle is tight, pop it in the fridge.
Hope you enjoy and if you give it a try, let me know. ๐
I do plan on using my kombucha bottles, but I used plastic for my first batch. ๐

Thanks for posting this! My husband loves ginger ale so I might give this a try.

Good idea, especially since the vast majority of the ginger ale sold in stores is full of high fructose corn syrup and doesn't have any ginger in it. This recipe sounds much healthier. Good job!

Jorene! I KNOW… HFCS is a no no in our house, it is so funny the kids will be at church and if they are offered some candy, they will say… Moma does this have High Fructose? ๐ haha
It is quite tasty and hopefully I can get our kombucha going again so we can have one or the other available at all times.
