Fall on the Farm

Chas · November 11, 2020 ·

It’s FALL on the farm and it is a wonderful time of year! WE are growing and learning and it is all so very good!

So much has happened and I have been so negligent in my blogging… so I will do my best to give a recap of what’s been going on!
Above is a picture of Hazel. She is our oldest Nubian and she is away from the farm right now visiting with a buck in hopes that we will have some spring babies!
In the meantime we are now pig farmers! Conway (the smaller) and Loretta (the larger) have come to live here on the homestead. They are full bloodied kunekunes! Hopefully next year we will have our first litter of piglets… I can hardly stand the excitement of all the life here. It’s so wonderful.

We have had such unusual weather… warm spells, cool spells, it’s been strange… Here on my hydrangea, I have one full bloom that has completely dried on the bush, and then there are several new blue blooms just emerging!

I’ve taken the opportunity when I can to “can”! Broth, beans, whatever I can get my hands on!

This is Mavis… the resident Diva! She melts my heart… such a funny girl!

Here’s a couple of others that melt my heart… my not so little middles. ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’›

As I can, I have been working on crochet projects. My pumpkins are popular this year. I’ve had more sells on etsy than ever… and by that I mean like 7! So that’s awesome and funny cause it’s not THAT many. But I’m excited nonetheless.

Eli had his 18th birthday!

Talk about feeling old! He was able to vote for the first time on his 18th birthday, it was an exciting day for him! How did he get to be so grown up so fast? My, my how time does fly….

Halloween has come and gone… we had our annual family pumpkin carving, which was a hoot as usual. And then we were able to participate in Trunk or Treat with the church… Shannon and I were Jack Skellington and Sally. (Nightmare before Christmas).

And we were contacted about taking on some new babies. The family just didn’t have time to take with them and wanted to know if we would be willing. I was thrilled.

The black spotted is Myrtle, the middle is Manny (he is a wether) and the smallest is Esther.

I’ve been doing a lot of experimenting with my sourdough… this is a LONG fermentation sourdough raisin bread. I thought it was wonderful!

And finally and the most wonderful news… I am going to be a grandmoma!

Cameo and Houston are expecting… Little Denver should join us late January! Talk about being over the moon!!!

And lastly… the fall garden has been coming in lovely. We have lots of kale, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, collards, Brussels sprouts, bok choy, and lettuce! And because of the odd weather, we even have some herbs that are looking beautiful. I’m happy and thankful for it all!

In a time of such confusion and uncertainty… I sure am glad for this piece of earth we call our home.
