My children and I entered a gingerbread house contest at our local library. We entered the family division and WON! We were so excited!
We decided to go with a traditional shape house, but then jazzed it up a bit with the decor. We rolled out some gum drops to make a stained glass look to the windows. Carlie cut up a large gum drop to make the wreath on the front of the house. I really was tickled with how well she did. It was all her idea and I was very proud! We turned some sugar ice cream cones upside down and decorated the trees with a piping bag and royal icing.
Our chimney is candy canes, the smoke is marshmallow. The shingles are sprinkles. The walkway is gum drops that are flattened out and nerds rope lines the walkway. Our snowman is powdered doughnuts and our Christmas packages are starbursts that are shaped, some have bows and some do not.
It was a great time and we were so happy that we did it all together. Looking forward to next year already!

This is so cute! I tried one time to make a ginger bread cottage and my talent just isn't in this area. My effort was pitiful. Blessings, Carolyn in Fl.
