We have been having some issues with our water line lately.
Ugh.
So, when I use the washing machine the water comes back up on us rather than flowing out.
Big pain, Big mess.
As a family of 6, we have to have our Monday wash day!
So, instead of fretting, we started living out what I have been pondering on… we put our homesteading skills to use and were VERY happy with the results.
The kids were so diligent and eager to help. They were very surprised to see just how dirty some of the clothes (Papa’s work clothes) were! Realizing that they need to be separated and saved for last! ๐
We used two galvanized tubs, and my scrub board.
If we had a wringer that would have been perfect… instead we wrung them out as well as we could and the clothes line and the sun took care of the rest.
Let me just put this plug in for line drying your clothes.
The sun is AMAZING for whites! Honestly!
Yesterday after washing some of our whites, there was a spot on a crocheted cardigan of mine. We scrubbed but the spot was still visible.
After line drying for a few hours, the spot is now hardly noticeable! I was thrilled!
You save money. No bleach. Good, hard work! And it’s fun!
Even if you feel that this isn’t for you. Give it a try once, it is great fun!

I bet your kids loved this! ๐ I know mine would. My sister uses a clothes line for drying, and she really likes it.

That's interesting that you mention that about the whites, because when I was in Haiti last year, I noticed that their clothes, particularly their whites, were SPARLKING clean! Now that you mention it, they do all their clothes by hand and lay them across bushes, on rooftops, or across fences to dry in the sun (of which there is PLENTY!) That probably explains it. Looks like you may be living that off-grid lifestyle before you know it! ๐

Great job kids.. And Mom too for getting it ready.. I agree line drying is great for all.. I like to line dry but our season is so short.. My Mom says that if you leave your clothes out over night helps with all stains..Thanks for sharing.. God Bless

You know, even though I love line drying, I've often thought about how "horrible" it would be to have to wash by hand. But, I gotta admit; your photos make it look like a blast! I just might have to go invest in a washboard now! Thanks for sharing with the Homestead Barn Hop this week!

I love it! I used to help my grandma wash outside when I was little. Brings back some wonderful memories!
