Knowing just what a monumental feat it would be to go totally off grid, I will have to be patient. I wish I could tell you that I had the patience of Job…. alas, I can. not. I used to think I was incredibly patient, I’m not. ๐ haha
So, instead of moaning over when will I be able to do this, wah, wah, wah. I am going to start weaving in some “down” time into our schedules, and start trying to rid ourselves of so many electronic gadgets and more manual ones.
One thing is, I will begin to use my laundry line MORE! Thankfully The Papa (Shannon) just tightened it up for me, so that will make things so much nicer.
Not using that dryer will help so much!
Another, is I am thinking about incorporating a power-off day. Meaning, we will solely cook over the fire pit or on the grill, we will not wash any clothes unless it is by hand, we will not dry any clothes unless it is by clothesline. No tv. No computer. No lights except candles or lanterns.
We’ll see how it goes. ๐
And just in general, we will be working towards making our garden bigger, our grocery trips fewer, our taste-buds more accustom to fresh out of the garden or pantry and not just what we want… when we want it.
When money allows I would like to purchase a few of these for our home
Those would be beneficial on our no-electricity nights. ๐
So, baby-stepping… being patient, and working towards our goals and not just talking about them. Becoming more pro-active and disciplined.
Have a great day, friends!

I would love to be off grid, but sadly that won't happen for quite awhile. I do hang my clothes out when I can, turn everything off (power strips)when they are not in use, make more things from scratch, and I bought a hand can opener (I like it better). I would like some of those lamps too. My husband doesn't like candles, so those would be great! Littles changes are helping us become more selfsuffient :O)

Chas,
I love hanging laundry!! We do it all the time..
I also would love to live off the grid. Until that time I too must have patience. The laterns are pretty cheap at Walmart, go to the camping section, I think they are $4.88 each. I love the idea of a "no power" day. May have to try that myself. ๐
Blessings

I've tried getting a power off day in our home, but my honey isn't really keen on the idea. The running water part would be hardest. No hot shower. Maybe we could just do a partial. ๐

Chas, if any mama can pull this off, you can. I sense that it is for the good of your family and that you find much enjoyment in it….and look for ways to make things productive and FUN. You're quite a mama!
(I only have hand can openers….and you already know what I think of my clothes-line!)
