Disaster in our Hometown: Part 2

Chas · May 3, 2011 ·

After hearing through friends and facebook of what had happened in our town, I was uneasy about actually seeing the damage. Having trouble getting what I felt out in words, or even emotion. I was numb.
Once seeing though, my heart was overwhelmed with grief, but at the same time I had this realization of just how BIG our God is. How incredible and merciful He is. As I saw the destruction I knew it was severe, but it could have been much, much worse.

Homes in a subdivision that were completely torn apart.

Apartment buildings that have been around for as long as I can remember.

Power lines in piles of rubbish.

The path of the storm as it came over the mountain.

Vehicles totaled.

As horrible as these pictures look, of course in person is so much more real.

But, there is hope.

There is hope in Christ and there is beauty in community and there is love in family.
Our little town is banding together, as a united front. Helping, sharing, loving through this time of tragedy. Serving and giving. Seeing just how one person CAN make a difference, and many people can make an impact.
Our town will survive this, and we will be stronger for it. There is a renewed love for family, community and the One True God. May this stay with us for as long as we live.
