Talking with the chickens

Chas · June 1, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Last week we were blessed with 20! new hens! When we acquire new hens we put them in the coop for at least a day before we let them range with the rest of the flock.
Talk about a funny site when we let them into the cage with Captain and Lieutenant Dan still on the outside. Needless to say, they were very eager to make their presence known. 🙂

Captain: Hey there Ladies…
I just wanted you to know that I am the dominant male
and this joker over here is my back-up.
Lieutenant Dan: Back-up??? Prepare yourselves Ladies…
Watch me, see me run! I’m Awesome!
Captain: How you doin’???

    Chas,
We just found out one of our hens is a Rooster. Luckily, we named him "Hawk" which can be a boys name. I chuckled when I read about Lieutenant Dan because we have hens named Forrest and Gump (they are turkens- naked necked birds). They got that name when they arrived because they were the sickliest of the bunch.
    Blessings,
    Michelle
