A Christmas I'm sure we will Remember, but hope not to repeat

Our Christmas, in fairly self explanatory pictures.
It's cold.
We're sick.
There have been bright spots, thank You Lord!
Some fun, lots of naps, tons of blankets.
The end.
I hope your Christmas days have been merry. ❤

Merry Christmas Eve with a little present to you...

Happy Christmas my friends! We are excitedly celebrating our Savior's birth and as with all the giving and receiving, I thought I would pop by and give you a little something.

I received this beautiful coffee mug last night. It didn't have a cozy around the middle so I stitched one up this morning.
Red and aqua is such a favorite color combination of mine right now, I had no qualms about what color the cozy would be!

Here's my simplistic pattern, a little gift on this happy Christmas Eve!

Coffee Cozy:
Chain 11
Row 2-37 Turn and sc in 2nd chain from hook and each chain til end (10 stitches) chain 1 turn
Row 38 slip stitch in next 5 stitches chain 5 and slip stitch in last 5 stitches.
Finish off.
On opposite side sew a favorite button about center.
This pattern fits my new coffee cup perfectly. The coffee cup is right about 10" around.
It would be a great project for any of you new to crocheting, or teaching your daughters or sons!
I love quick, easy little projects!

Let me know if you have any questions.
Blessings to you and have a very, Merry Christmas!!

Grinch Punch

Working along with our advent calendar, last night was 'Watch a Christmas movie and make root beer floats'. Problem. I detest root beer, as does several others in the family. So I thought about it and decided that we would have Grinchy punch instead.
Unable to find my punch bowl since the remodel, I had to improvise. I grabbed my wash tub, gave it a good cleaning and made the punch.
The punch is super simple and you can change it up to whatever your family enjoys.
I took a carton of green fruit punch. Several scoops of lime sherbet, lemon lime soda or ginger ale.
For a fun bonus, I added a maraschino cherry. This was the Grinch's heart that was 3 times to small.
We all piled up together. Blankets, twinkle lights all aglow and enjoyed a rather silly Christmas movie together. No, it wasn't the grinch. We already watched that. :)

The 25 days til Christmas

For years, I have wanted to make an Advent Calendar. I have made one for my sister that I really love, but I just haven't taken the time/energy into making one for us. This year, though, I have put together a little something that we are enjoying and I am sure it will help me get in the mood to make something a bit more permanent as time allows.

This year was the first year that I have been able to put up a tree in the kitchen also. I have been wanting to do that for YEARS, but since we were able to take the wall last spring, it opened our kitchen up to allow a small, happy tree. :)

I printed these from Pinterest and then laminated them and coordinated them to which day would work best on our schedule

I also printed out these dates and laminated them so we could reuse them...  I taped them on the front of our brown bags...

And of course Scripture! I printed off 25 days worth of Scripture telling of the Birth of Christ. I laminated them and put them in the bag with the card saying what today will bring.

Scripture printables

It was really easy and the kids really enjoy opening each day so far.
I just used brown bag lunch bags and taped the day on the front, put the Scripture, activity and a candy(on some days) and tied it up with some red yarn. The kids then arranged the bags around our little kitchen tree.

I hope you are doing something to make each day Merry!
Have fun!

Ribbon Christmas Tree

On Thanksgiving at my Mom's we have several traditions. A grand meal of course, we play hands and feet (a card game) and we make a craft or two.
This year was exactly the same in all those aspects. The meal was beyond fabulous. We played cards with the family. And then later on we got to crafting.
The ribbon tree is very, very simple... But it does take a little while to accomplish.

First, you need ribbon, straight pins, and a styrofoam tree shape.

Next, cut your ribbons in small sections. You can choose the length here.

Last, take a ribbon piece and loop it. Stick a straight pin through the two raw ends so your loop is, errrr looped, I guess. Haha. Stick the pin in tree. Alternate colors and textures. Whatever your heart desires.

I would like to have a set of three, in differing heights. I think that would be beautiful.

What are your family traditions?

Have fun!

The gift of organization

Yesterday was my birthday. Yep, I'm the big *37*!! I'm happy with that. I'm not one that moans about getting older. I want to get older! I enjoy my life! My hunka-hunka burnin love husband and the fantastic 4 ~aka, my kids~ . They are so good to me and God has blessed me with them. I enjoy living!

Last week Shannon kept asking what I would like for my birthday. Normally I just use whatever money I am given towards bills or something responsible. This year however, I had my eye on a prize!! I found a store called The Container Store. Don't laugh, the closest is in Atlanta... I didn't know what glory and awe was out there! Anyhow, I was browsing online and found the store. I figured out what I needed to accomplish my goal and then ordered. I can't tell you the last time I was so giddy about a birthday present!
Here's what it looks like!

I probably could have one more basket if I wanted, but I really like the outcome! On the bottom I have a deep basket with a media rack above to hold wrapping paper in place. I also have a deep basket for the gift boxes/gift bags as well as a jar with markers and pens. Above that is a magnetic strip where I can store my scissors or magnetic jars if I were to get some. Then above that I have 3 small baskets to hold ribbons, tape, gift tags, etc. It all fits on backside of bedroom door. Out of the way without getting rumpled and torn.

Organization. Yeah, it's a pretty great way to fill up a gals heart.

A little smidge of this and a smattering of that...

My bloggy-ness is quite sporadic as of late, and I'm sorry to my friends who do visit our little spot on this great, big, worldwide web. My life has been full to overflowing with family, mothering, teaching, creating, serving... All of a sudden things have happened and all of a sudden, it seems, life went from quiet to an uproar! Life is that way, and when those times happen, it's important for us to roll along. To try to keep our sanity and joy through the good, the bad, and sometimes even the ugly.
I am a creative person, God just instilled that in me as he was knitting me together in my mothers womb. Since I was a child I wanted to 'make' everything. I would see something I liked and usually my Moma would say to me, 'Chas, you could make that!' I guess that sank in deep, because that is the voice I often hear when I see something I like.
I have crocheted squares, dishcloths and even a scarf one time in my life. That's all I could do, or so I thought. A couple of weeks ago, I proved myself wrong. I began crocheting up a storm and really haven't stopped since. Here are a few of the things that I didn't know I could make!

One photo made the cut and it's not crochet of course, but some canvas art I made for our home. I love handmade!!

Family Fun Day at Lake Winnie

Once a year Lake Winnie holds their annual, Scout Day. On that day, scouts can wear their uniform and be admitted to the park for free. I mentioned the idea to my dear husband months ago, because I'm like that. An over compulsive planner... *grin*... He thought it was a great idea. In the meantime, I found that it would be the last family fun day of the year also, so if I could find coupons that would save our family another $20! So, I began putting the plan into motion. We packed a picnic, planned to make sure it wouldn't be an issue to be absent from church for the day and saved a little back to pay for our tickets. We planned on letting everyone sleep in, but a little one with a bad dream ran us out of bed earlier than expected. We didn't tell the kids until yesterday morning because we wanted to take them right afterwards. If not it would have been days and weeks of "how many more days???"
We arrived about half an hour before the gates opened. We wanted to make sure we got a whole day full!
Ride after ride. All day. The only time we weren't riding is when we ran back out to the vehicle to eat our sandwich! It was an incredibly fun day and I'm so glad we were able to take a little vacation from reality and play for a while.
